We need green stuff - it heals the soul
and the mind.
Look to the future. She was upset by the debris in the park and shelters.
Plus the smooth paths 'ryas made for more vehicle traffic in the park. She
also felt that Spooner park was over developed.
There are a few areas left in Little Canada that could be investment in the
future - 28 acres of Turnquist property (corner of i•;c~femeny and Sextant apprx
1`ir. Turncuist is interested in selling and the terrain of the land is varied,
with water and lots of animals, flowers, ducks, greese and eggets, Blue Teal
and Blue Heron. The natural pond on the property is very deep as much as 50
feet. Also would make a good nature center area with hiking pat}is, etc. plus
being totally in Little Canada and doesn't border another communit}•.
Open spaces are an asset to the community where people can play spontaneous
games. Think of the future and save some land.
Clara Renner would be happy take the Park Commission on tour of the
Turnquist propertvmost of which is good wetlands with some boggs.
Bev Scalze mentioned a piece of land on Sextant Ave. which is owned by the
state and the city could pick up - Wenzel 1'illa Lot 6-1.
Carl Spooner recommended by motion that the above land be picked up by the
city for park purposes - Seconded by Lois Runyon- no opposing votes.
Bill Sanders mentioned the follo~aing Spring projects.
Black top the parking lot Completing trail system around the ball field,
fence barriers,
Budget as follows Parking lot and road to tennis lot $13,000.00
Trail - X5,000.00 partial grant
Fencing X4,300.00 wood posts for fencing
Carl Spooner mentioned that Empire Bucket might be able to build walking
bridge across the ditch in Spooner park,i;hich is close to Centerville Road
and the land on the ether side of t}ie ditch could be planted with shrubs,
and could have an archery range and horse shoe courts.
Uan Drake mentioned the erosion in the park in the same spot as last and its
starting to damage t}ie blacktop trail in that spot, possibly some way to divert
the water.
Bev Scalze mentioned that starting in April the City Council will have 2 meetings
per month. Also that we may not be able to charge $300.00 per house park charges
unless its in a subdivision. She also mentioned that vacated streets might make
good trails as well as city easements instead of letting this property revert back
to the landowners.
Jim Dlorelan moved that all requests to the city council to vacate any streets be
referred to the Park Commission.
