~~
Park .Commission Meeting
July 30, 1981
Attended: Bill Sanders, Carl Spooner, Jim Morelan, Lois Runyon
Bev. Scalze.
Bill Sanders suggested we grade, fill and seed the large flat area
in Spooner Park (that area used in Spooner for the rides during
Canadian Days). This area is clay and has very poor drainage. Grading
filling, and seeding would make it a more useable area.
Bill also stated there is still money in the budget for trails, the
low bid left money from the trail grant, so he will have them connect
the tral. to the parking lot and that should take care of the grant
money. Bev said Carley Eng. took care of the drainage problemon the
trail.
Carl Spooner said Vern Montgomery complained that the flags are not
flying on the flag poles in the park. Discussion followed. It was
deceided that Jim Morelan will take care of the flag, and we will
put an article in the paper asking for volumteers to take care of
the flag.
The Lions Club would like to donate more funds to the city if we had
a project for them to support. One possibility would be the puppet
wagon.
Jim Morelan mentioned that there has been problems with the lighting
in the lower tennis courts, he will talk to Joe Donovan about contacting
Muska Elect. Co. It appears to be an improper wiring job.
Bev mentioned that the council meets with the auditor on Aug. 5, 1981,
and next years budget has to be in by August 20th, so it can be published.
Discussion followed on Canadian Days. Carl Spooner felt the Park
Commission shouldn't be involved, but the city should support it
because of civic recognition and it helps the businesses. Also, we
should send a letter to the Canadian Days Committee regarding how
well the park was maintained.
CarlSpooner stated that Ray Hanson wants the City Council to approve
all letters sent out by the Park Commission. Bev Scalze said she will
talk to Ray about this.
Bev also .said that Ramsey County Open Space did offer $30,000 for the .
'IUrnquist property in 1973 and that figure did not include the house.
N,ee ting adjourned at 8:40
BUDGET MEETING: TUES.
