MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
Jame 25, 2002
The Director stated that the event is advertised on our web site, Cable Channel 16, and an
article will be placed in the Review. Additionally, an article was already placed in the June
issue of the Le Petit Canadien.
The Director commented that the Commission Members' help will be needed during the
event to organize and serve. Ice cream service begins at 6:30 p.m. and ends around 7:30 p.m.
The band performs at 7:00 p.m. Volunteers should arrive around 6:00 p.m. The Director
stated that he will make arrangements for an ice cream cooler and name tags for Commission
Members.
RONDEAU The Director reported that the City has rejected the one and only bid that was received for
PARK road, utility, and park construction. Rondeau Park construction was included in that bid.
The total bid package was $1.5 million and the Rondeau portion of that amount was
$103,000. The total bid package was $267,000 over the estimated cost and staff felt that we
would receive lower bids if we would re-bid the project for spring 2003 construction.
The Director stated that the grass will be maintained at Rondeau Park to keep the area
looking nice. He indicated that a letter will be sent to homeowners telling them that
development of the park has been delayed, and that the neighborhood meeting will beheld
sometime next spring.
The Director said that the City Engineer Told him that if the City forgoes features at the park,
such as the half basketball court, it would cost the city extra money if the court was
constructed later. Due to this fact, it would make sense to pave the area for a half basketball
court. The City could then hold off on putting up a structure until the situation with the
neighborhood could be resolved. There would be an extra expense to have to place the court
after the park is finished. Schabacker agreed stating that if the basketball court does not
work out, the surface could be used for other activities. The gazebo was not included in the
bid package.
STONERIDGE The Director stated that the he met with the City Administrator and the property owner from
COURT Stoneridge Court last week. The adjacent property owners were invited to the meeting. One
of the residents, living on Aspen Circle, attended the meeting. She was against having trees
cut out of the area to open the area up. At this time, the City is not planning on offering that
property up for sale to the property owner based on the opposition received. The City
Administrator also received one call from another property owner opposing the sale.
DIRECTOR The Director reported on the following:
REPORT
Advertisements went out for the adult fall softball program. The summer program is half
over. The lighting and fields have been holding up good despite the rain we have
received.
We have received a few calls from the residents of Pitrina Park regarding the high water
levels in the drainage ponds in that area. The Director stated the ponds are basically
doing what they are supposed to do and draining the best they can. Schabacker
Page 2 of 3
