MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
December 5, 2002
Concern was expressed about the ability of residents to get their boats onto the lake this spring
since the Arcade Street bridge project will occur around the same time. Holmberg stated that
residents might be able to launch their boats in April at Gervais Beach. A May ls` construction
start is planned.
Concern was also expressed about the drainage from Edgerton Street. Holmberg stated that to
his knowledge, nothing new is planned for drainage in that area, but he would check with the
County's Public Works Department on that issue.
Signage at the Spoon Lake boat launch was suggested to inform the boaters that the park is
closed.
TRAILS Sanders presented a revised trail plan to the Commission. Members were encouraged to review
the plan and present their comments at the next meeting. Some of the comments expressed at
the meeting included:
^ Connection missing at northeast corner of Pioneer Park.
^ Vanderbie connection missing. Should replace Edgerton Street since it is safer.
^ Maple Leaf Court connection missing.
^ Remove connection between Little Canada Road & Water Works.
1RECTOR'S The Director reported on the following:
REPORT
^ Registrations are being taken for youth activities including winter gymnastics, skating
lessons, basketball clinic, exercise for kids, and babysitter safety classes.
• The Friends of the Parks & Trails is conducting their Commemorative Tree Sale Program.
A flyer was distributed.
• The soccer field at Pioneer Park took a beating this year due to the moisture and high use.
This problem may take drastic action to repair. The cost could run as high as $70,000 and
the field will have to be closed next summer.
^ Larson has reapplied for the Commission and one other application has been received.
ADJOURN Larson recommended that the meeting be adjourned
Motion secozzded by Scl:abacker.
Motion carried 6 - 0.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
Respe ally subm~d,
is P@c~ ~~%(/~~
