SECTION 4 - DEFINITIONS <br /> <br />The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this policy, shall have the meanings <br />ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning: <br /> <br />Compensatory Time - Time off in lieu of paid compensation at the rate of one and one-half hours <br />for each hour worked in excess of forty hours per work week. <br /> <br />Exempt Employees - For the purposes of this policy, exempt employees include the City <br />Administrator, the Park & Recreation Director, the Public Works Superintendent Director, <br />Building Official, City Clerk and Finance Director. This handbook and this provision do not <br />apply to exempt employees hired after July 12, 1995. <br /> <br />Employee - a person legally holding a position in the City service. <br /> <br />Employer - the City of Little Canada. <br /> <br />Learning & Evaluation Period - a specified period of time at the beginning of employment (or <br />beginning period of a promotion) that is designated as a trial period. The learning period is <br />considered the last part of the selection process. <br /> <br />Outside Employment - employment of any kind engaged in by a City employee for which <br />compensation is received from a source other than the City. <br /> <br />Over-Time - Work beyond the normally scheduled forty (40) hours of work per work week. <br />Paid at a rate of one and one-half the regular hourly wage for each additional hour worked. <br /> <br />Promotion - any movement of an employee from a position in one class to a position in another <br />class having a higher maximum salary rate. <br /> <br />Regular Full-Time Employee - an employee who normally works a minimum of forty (40) hours <br />per work week, and whose position is designated as continuing on a regular full-time basis. <br /> <br />Regular Part-Time Employee - an employee who normally works less than forty (40) hours per <br />work week, and whose position is designated as continuing on a regular basis. <br /> <br />Regular Pay Rate - an employee's hourly or monthly pay rate, including special allowances. <br /> <br />Temporary or Seasonal Employee - an employee retained to fill a position, full or part-time, <br />which is of a temporary or seasonal nature on a non-regular basis. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />4 <br />
