<br />SECTION 15 – OTHER LEAVES WITH PAY <br />Holidays <br /> <br />A. The City observes the following to be official holidays for all permanent full-time and <br />permanent part-time employees, working a minimum of 20 hours per week on average <br />projected over a calendar year based on anticipated demands of the position: <br /> <br />New Year's Day; <br />Martin Luther King's Birthday, <br />The third Monday in January; <br />President's Day, the third <br />Monday in February; <br />Memorial Day, the last Monday in May; <br />Independence Day, July 4th; <br />Labor Day, the first Monday in <br />September; <br />Veterans' Day, November 11th; <br />Thanksgiving Day, the fourth <br />Thursday in November; <br />Day after Thanksgiving Day; <br />Christmas Eve, December 24th*; <br />Christmas Day, December 25th. <br /> <br /> *In years within which Christmas Eve falls on a Saturday or Sunday, regular full-time <br />and regular part-time employees, working a minimum of 20 hours per week on <br />average projected over a calendar year based on anticipated demands of the position, will <br />be granted a floating holiday in lieu of the Christmas Eve holiday. This floating holiday <br />can be used at the discretion of the employee within the calendar year, subject to approval <br />of the supervisor. <br /> <br />If an employee leaves the service of the City prior to December 24th in a given year <br />where a floating holiday is granted, the floating holiday is considered unearned, and a <br />vacation day will be substituted if the floating holiday has been used. If no vacation <br />accrual exists, the payment for this day would be deducted from the last paycheck. <br />Floating holidays can be carried over to the next calendar year with approval by the City <br />Administrator. <br /> <br />B. All official holidays shall be considered to commence at the beginning of the first shift of <br />the day on which the holiday is observed and continue for twenty-four (24) hours <br />thereafter. <br /> <br />C. When a holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday shall be a holiday and when a <br />holiday falls on a Saturday, the preceding Friday shall be a holiday. Note the exception <br />outlined above for the Christmas Eve holiday in years within which Christmas Eve falls <br />on a Saturday or Sunday. <br /> <br /> <br />28
