Councilman Fisher
explained how the process has gone so far. The Committee started as a
broad group including the City Council, Staff Members, the Parks and
Recreation Commission, and the Little Canada Recreation Association. At
that level, Fischer explained, the mission and core values of the Parks and
Recreation Department were defined. Councilman Fischer noted the next
steps in the process would be to establish strategic goals, including longer
term goals that may not be realized for 20 years or more along with
shorter-term goals that may benefit our residents much sooner.it was
difficult to set goals because it took a long time to agree on wording and it
was hard to decide if the goals were reachable. He further explained
Committee members were concerned the goals would be of tasks that
would be too far in the future or above their level to decide. Councilman
Fischer told the Commission it may not be a bad idea to have goals that
were looking a long ways into the future. He explained that the City
Council wants the Commission to feel empowered to mold this process to
fit their needs and ideas. The mission, vision and strategic goals so it
canwill be be aan important tool to guide the Commission in the future.
Chair Miller asked if Councilman Fischer could share with the
Commission the proposed mission and core values. Councilman Fischer
stated he did not have the document with him, but could share it with
everyone via email. Chair Miller stated he wanted the Commission to
TRANSITION
PLANNING
COMMITTEE
