Resolution declared adopted.
CITY PLANNER The City Planner stated that he has gotten several calls about the two
REPORT parcels for sale next to the pawn shop, at 2736 and 2744 Rice Street. He
explained that it currently is a single family home on 1.75 acres and these
parcels are in a Planned Unit Development district. He stated when the
Village was developed, it was expected that most of the land in this area
would be commercial. He asked the Council to clarify what their vision
for potential land uses is here since most of the interest has been for multi-
family or senior housing.
Torkelson stated he would be fine with multi -family housing with
commercial retail on the bottom. The City Administrator explained that in
PUD zones any multi -family would have to be 55+ housing. McGraw
stated that one of the biggest development mistakes across the country was
building commercial on the ground level and housing above. The City
Planner stated it has been hard to fill the Village so he doesn't anticipate
that more mixed use would be successful. Keis stated that the City looks
at Rice Street as the main commercial corridor. Montour agrees that it
would be nice to have more commercial here. He stated that he would like
to see Cardigan Ridge get built first and see how fast it fills up before
allowing more senior housing.
0
