MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL WORKSHOP
JULY 27, 2016
There was Council consensus not to participate in the Minnesota
GreenStep Cities Program.
REVIEW
The City Clerk stated that the Council and Staff have discussed creating a
PROPOSED
City of Little Canada Facebook page, but the Council wanted a social
SOCIAL
media policy in place prior to the City joining any social media sites. She
MEDIA
explained that a social media policy has been drafted for the Council to
POLICY
review. Fischer stated that he had provided some written comments for
minor changes. Torkelson stated his suggestions.
McGraw stated that the City Administrator should have a meeting with all
City employees to review the City's expectations in regards to any posting
on social media sites. He noted that the employees should sign a
statement that they agree to adhere to the policy. Torkelson stated that
there are options for employee training on how to use Facebook, and that
it would be a good idea for at a few staff members to attend a training
session.
There was Council consensus to move forward with the social media
policy with the changes suggested, and that a meeting should be held with
all City employees to review the new policy once it is adopted. The City
Clerk stated the agreed upon changes will be made, and the social media
policy will be on the next Council meeting agenda for action.
DISCUSS The City Clerk stated that the Council and Staff have been discussing
UPDATING updating the city website for the last few years. She explained that Staff
CITY has talked to two new website vendors, Revize and CivicPlus, along with
WEBSITE GovOffice, who is the current website vendor. She stated that GovOffice
has not made any improvements to the administrative side of their
websites, and it has always been cumbersome to work with. She stated
that Staff did not recommend spending over $4,000 to update the
GovOffice website without getting any improvement to the administrative
side.
The City Clerk stated that Revize and CivicPlus seem to offer very
comparative services and website appearance. She explained that
CivicPlus has always been more expensive than other vendors, but they
recently lowered their quote for a core package from $26,610 to $9,990,
and a premium package from $53,210 to $15,995. She noted that their
annual maintenance fees for the core package are $500 more than Revize.
McGraw asked if Staff wanted a premium package. The Associate
Planner stated that Staff s opinion is that a core package, using a design
template, would be enough for what Little Canada wants to accomplish
2
