STAFF REPORT

TO: Mayor Keis and Members of City Council

FROM: Bill Dircks, Public Works Director

DATE: July 7, 2016

RE: Fiber Optic Cable at Spooner Park

Based upon earlier discussions with the City Council, Staff was directed to obtaining pricing for
a fiber run to serve the Spooner Park upper shelter. This would enable us to offer Wi-Fi at the
park and give us the ability to install security cameras at the upper shelter and Spooner garage as
deemed appropriate.
Roseville IT received a quote of $3,750 to run the fiber from the street to the building and an
additional $1,870 for the equipment in the building for a total capital outlay of $5,620. There
would be annual maintenance fees of $500 payable to Roseville for maintaining connectivity and
Wi-Fi service. (Note: we have not received pricing to make this available in Pioneer Park as of
yet).
Staff will see if this work can be completed before Canadian Days without making too much of a
mess. If it is not possible, they will come in after Canadian Days.
Staff recommends approving the installation of fiber optic cable and necessary equipment at the
Spooner Park upper shelter for a total cost of $5,620 plus the ongoing $500/year maintenance
fee.
