POSITION DESCRIPTION <br />PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR <br /> <br /> 3 <br />SUPERVISION OF OTHERS <br /> <br />1. Parks & Recreation Department Program Coordinators. <br />2. Ice Rink Personnel. <br />3. Maintenance Personnel assigned to the Department. <br />4. Program Instructors. <br />5. Program referees, umpires, and other officials. <br />6. Volunteer coaches and workers. <br /> <br /> <br />QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES <br /> <br />Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation or <br />physical education, including courses in the organization and administration of public recreation; <br />experience in organizing and directing recreational activities; or any equivalent combination of <br />education and experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills: <br /> <br />Knowledge of the principles and practices, philosophy and objectives of public recreation, <br />including a thorough understanding of activities which make up a community recreation <br />program. <br /> <br />Knowledge or the principles of administration and the methods of organizing and staffing a <br />department for a comprehensive recreation program. <br /> <br />Knowledge of the facilities and equipment needed in a comprehensive recreation program. <br /> <br />Ability to develop and administer and evaluate a recreation program suited to the needs of the <br />community. <br /> <br />Ability to recruit, train, and supervise personnel required for recreation programming. <br /> <br />Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, in writing and orally. <br /> <br />Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, volunteers, <br />community leaders, civic groups, city officials and the general public. <br /> <br />Possess a valid driver’s license and usage of a registered vehicle. <br /> <br />High degree of tact, courtesy, and good judgment due to extensive contact with the public. <br /> <br />Ability to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the City’s recreation program. <br /> <br />Regular attendance is considered an essential function of this position.
