STAFF REPORT

TO: Mayor Keis and Members of City Council

FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator

DATE: September 23, 2016

RE: Call for Joint Workshop with Parks & Recreation Commission to Review Capital
Improvement Priorities

The Parks & Recreation Commission has been working off the attached listing for capital
improvement planning. It is my understanding they will continue this process during their
October and November meetings.

Staff envisions that the City Council will do their initial review of the Capital Improvement
Budgets as part of your October 12th regular meeting. Based on that discussion and the
prioritization by the Parks & Recreation Commission, it would seem like a good idea to have a
joint meeting to review their priorities in the context of the overall capital improvement program
given the need to balance competing needs. It will also ensure that we are all on the same page
in terms of project needs.

Therefore, staff is recommending you call for a workshop with the Parks & Recreation
Commission to review capital budget priorities and possibly to discuss future staffing
issues. We are recommending this workshop be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday,
November 16th. (Note: This assumes the first regular meeting for November is moved to
11/16.)

cc: Parks & Recreation Commission
Jim Morelan, Parks & Recreation Director
Sharon Provos, Finance Director
