MINUTES
PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION
April 7, 2016
The Director reported the Parks and Recreation Commission is looking for
a new member. The position will be open through April 15th.

The Director reported the Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a
bus trip to the Saints game on May 20th and only a few spots are left.
There will also be a Twins bus trip on June 7th.

The Recreation Supervisor reported there are three driver safety classes
scheduled for April. Two of the classes will be a four hour session and the
other class will be an eight hour session split up into two days.

The Recreation Supervisor reported the Parks and Recreation Department
is partnering with Lifetime Fitness to offer an Exercise in the parks series
every Saturday in May from 11:00 – 12:00 in Pioneer Park.

The Recreation Supervisor reported there will be an Arbor Day
Celebration at Spooner Park on Friday, May 6th at 1:00. St. John’s School
and Little Canada Elementary were invited. The public is also invited.

The Recreation Supervisor reported the Parks and Recreation Department
has taken over the city-wide garage sale and are changing it to a 3 day
event from May 19th – May 21st. Advertisements will be posted soon.

The Recreation Supervisor asked if any of the Commission members had
any new ideas for the Ice Cream Social. She explained she had contacted a
couple movie places about showing a movie in the park, but the movies
wouldn’t be able to begin until 8:45 and the Ice Cream Social is on a
Thursday night. The Recreation Supervisor stated she had also contacted
Frattalone to see if it would be possible to bring some large construction
vehicles for display. She explained she was still waiting for a definitive
answer, but noted the company had sounded excited to showcase some of
their large equipment to the children. Chair Miller suggested the puppet
wagon, or a jazz band. Commission members agreed they were tired of the
puppet wagon. The Recreation Supervisor explained it may be hard to get
a high school jazz band to play since it is during the summer. She
suggested a couple that recently played music at the Market Place
Morning Talks. The Recreation Supervisor explained if the event would
cost money the Commission could ask for funding from the LCRA.
Darling noted the firetrucks are always popular. Other ideas included
clowns, a magician, a juggler, and the sheriff K-9 unit. The Recreation
Supervisor stated she would send the band director at Roseville an email
to see if they would be available. Darling noted there is a summer band
program at Parkview and they could possibly perform. The Recreation
Supervisor stated a decision for the Ice Cream Social will need to be made
quickly in order to let the Canadian Days team know before they print the
schedules. The Director noted the Commission wouldn’t have to change
