MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />LITTLE CANADA, MINNESOTA <br /> <br />May 5, 2016 <br /> <br /> Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a regular meeting of the Parks & <br />Recreation Commission of the City of Little Canada, Minnesota, was held on <br />the 5th day of May in the Council Chambers of the City Center located at 515 <br />Little Canada Road East in said city. <br /> <br /> Chair Dave Miller called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. and the following <br />members of the commission were present: <br /> <br /> MEMBERS PRESENT: Ms. Rose Chu <br /> Ms. Sharen Darling <br /> Mr. Ron Horwath <br /> Mr. Dave Miller <br /> Mr. Tom Ray <br /> Mr. Peter Schletty <br /> Ms. Patti Sullivan <br /> <br /> ALSO PRESENT: Mr. Jim Morelan, Parks and Rec. Director <br /> Ms. Katie McGinnity, Rec. Supervisor <br /> Mr. Bill Sanders, Parks Consultant <br /> Mr. Kevin Helander, Cable TV Producer <br /> <br />Sullivan made a motion to approve the minutes from the March meeting. <br />Horwath seconded the motion. The motion passed 7 – 0. <br /> <br /> <br />Chair Miller introduced Rose Chu, the new Commissioner for the Parks <br />and Recreation Commission. Chu explained she has lived in Little Canada <br />for six years and has worked in education her whole life. Currently Chu <br />works as an Associate Professor at Metropolitan State University teaching <br />in the Urban Education Program. Previous to her job as a professor, Chu <br />served as the Assistant Commissioner of Education for the State of <br />Minnesota. Chu told the Commission she is excited to learn through this <br />new opportunity and gain a new perspective. <br /> <br />The Director reported he had not been able to meet with the Historical <br />Society or Don Gagne who typically takes charge of planting the flowers <br />at the entrance. In years past, Gagne has come up with a planting plan and <br />asked the City to purchase the flowers so he can begin planting. The <br />Director continued the current structure of the entrance would most likely <br />have to stay for this year, but the Commission could begin planning for <br />next year.
