MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />OCTOBER 26, 2016 <br />PUBLIC <br />The Associate Planner reported that Lynn and Troy Natus are the owners of <br />HEARING— <br />Mama T's Castle Tap at 2490 and 2500 Rice Street, and they purchased the <br />VARIANCE TO <br />former Brady's property in October 2015. She explained that as new <br />ALLOW <br />owners they assumed the existing signage could be replaced, but staff <br />INCREASED <br />discovered that some of it was illegal non -conforming and had been <br />SIGNAGE AT <br />installed without permits. She explained that allowed signage amounts are <br />MAMA T'S <br />calculated based on the amount of building frontage, but since this building <br />CASTLE TAP, <br />is very narrow and deep, it does not end up allowing more than two square <br />2500 RICE <br />feet of wall signage after using the existing ground sign cabinet. She stated <br />STREET; <br />the applicant's proposal shows a new ground sign cabinet that will comply <br />APPLICANT <br />with the architectural guidelines and have a dynamic sign. She noted they <br />LYNN NATUS <br />will be removing the sign on the ground sign pole. The Associate Planner <br />stated the applicant is asking for 18 additional square feet of signage in <br />order to be able to also have a wall sign. She reported that staff finds that <br />the orientation of the building is unique and recommends approval of a <br />variance to allow up to a total of 98.38 square feet of signage on this <br />property. <br />There was no one present from the general public wishing to comment on <br />this matter. <br />Upon motion by Montour, seconded by McGraw, the public hearing was <br />closed. <br />Montour introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION 2016-10-178 - APPROVING A VARIANCE TO ALLOW <br />A TOTAL OF 98.38 SQUARE FEET OF SIGNAGE AT 2490& 2500 <br />RICE STREET, MAMA T'S CASTLE TAP. <br />Montour noted that the variance is being approved because of the unique <br />layout of the building on the property. <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Fischer. <br />Aye (5). <br />Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. <br />PUBLIC <br />The City Administrator explained that the Council must adjourn as the City <br />HEARING — <br />Council and reconvene as the Board of Adjustment and Appeals, and it <br />APPEAL OF <br />would take a 2/3 vote to approve an appeal.
