him on some of his projects. He states that he has an agreement to let them keep some of their
equipment on his property. Staff indicates that this is not permitted since they are not occupants of the
building and this was not part of the grandfathered outdoor storage. Mr. Erdmanis agrees to tell these
individuals they cannot keep their equipment on his property if the City says so, but he says its
contractors that work with him and it’s only a little bit of money that barely covers the taxes for the
property.

2015 – Ramsey County GIS Aerial shows an estimated 130,000 square feet of outdoor storage located
in front of the building and roughly 14,000 square feet in the rear yard.

June 2015 – Outdoor storage license inspection, city staff observes contractor trucks and semi-trucks in
the outdoor storage area. Mr. Erdmanis indicates that the contractor trucks are from individuals who
work with him on some of his projects. The four Interstate semi-trucks he says belong to individuals
who live in the area and need a place to store them when they aren’t making deliveries. City staff
explains that this is not part of the grandfathered outdoor storage and that these two uses for storage are
not allowed on the site. Mr. Erdmanis indicates that these are a continuation of the same equipment
and he’d like to pursue how these uses could continue. He indicates that he charges minimal rent and
uses this money to cover the property taxes.

July, October, and November 2015 – City staff meets with Mr. Erdmanis during the monthly planning
hours to discuss options for bringing the property into compliance. Mr. Erdmanis is requesting to keep
the renters of the outdoor storage.

July 2016 – City staff contacts Mr. Erdmanis to arrange the outdoor storage license inspection. Mr.
Erdmanis confirms that his is still renting a portion of the property to contractors and the semi-truck
owners who live in the area.

July 14, 2016 – Mr. Erdmanis meets with city staff during the monthly planning hours. He states that
he would like additional information on what defines his grandfathered use and what options does he
have to continue the renting of outdoor storage area to these users.

July 26, 2016 – The City mails Mr. Erdmanis a letter with the requested minutes and city code from
the rezoning of the parcel. The letter explains the options of Mr. Erdmanis to resolve.
