STAFF REPORT

TO: Mayor Keis and Members of City Council

FROM: Heidi Heller, City Clerk

DATE: December 16, 2016

RE: 2017 Parks & Recreation Commission Appointments
2017 Parks & Recreation Commission Chair Appointment

The terms of office for Rose Chu and Ron Horwath will expire on December 31, 2016. At this
time, there are two 3-year terms on the Parks & Recreation Commission to fill.

The City has received letters requesting reappointments from both Rose Chu and Ron Horwath.
A letters of interest was also received from Taelor Johnson.

The Parks & Recreation Commission Interview Committee consisted of Council Members Keis
and Fischer, Parks & Recreation Commission Chair Dave Miller, and the City Administrator.
The interview committee was very pleased with Ms. Johnson. The consensus of the Interview
Committee is that Rose Chu and Ron Horwath should be reappointed to 3-year terms, and the
letter of interest submitted by Taelor Johnson should be kept on file in the event of a future
Commission vacancy. The Council will need to decide if they agree with this recommendation.

Please also note that the Parks & Recreation Commission Ordinance calls for the Mayor to make
a recommendation for Parks & Recreation Commission Chair. Mayor Keis will make that
recommendation at Wednesday’s meeting, with the Council making the actual appointment. The
Commission will select their own Vice Chair at their first meeting in January.
