MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL WORKSHOP <br />DECEMBER 21, 2016 <br />exceeds expectations and noted that Hanson has good interactions with staff and <br />residents, even when things didn't go the residents way. He noted the city <br />newsletter is very good and Hanson has a great relationship with the League of <br />Minnesota Cities. Keis rated as exceeds expectations and stated that Hanson <br />knows the city and is very service oriented. He noted that he would like to have <br />a process in place for people to approach the Council about a topic that is not on <br />a meeting agenda. <br />Intergovernmental Relations: <br />Montour rated as exceeds expectation and noted that Hanson is willing to put in <br />extra effort to make sure the city is well run, and he is well respected by his <br />peers. McGraw rated as exceeds expectations and stated that Hanson has <br />developed great working relationships with the League of Minnesota Cities, <br />Ramsey County, and many others. He noted that Little Canada has a good <br />image in the metro area as being well run. Fischer rated as meets expectations <br />and stated that he appreciates Hanson's work with MNDOT as we go forward. <br />Keis rated as meets/exceeds expectations and noted that Hanson just does such a <br />good job consistently, and a lot of things are taken care of behind the scenes. <br />Torkelson rated as exceeds expectations. <br />Professional/Personal Development: <br />McGraw rated as meets expectations and noted that Hanson has just done such a <br />good job for so long. He noted that Hanson encourages staff to move up and <br />better themselves, and he is taking a class for himself. Fischer rated as meets <br />expectations, and noted that he sees staff development happening but does not <br />know what Joel is going for himself. Keis rated as meets expectations and <br />stated that staff development is great, and asked if there are other personal <br />development opportunities for Hanson. Torkelson rated as exceeds <br />expectations, and noted he likes that Hanson is interested in trying new things, <br />and really appreciates the desire to continue learning. Montour rated as exceeds <br />expectations and noted that Hanson exceeds in development of his staff, and has <br />been successful, and a good partner with other departments and cities. <br />Overall rating: <br />Keis rated Hanson overall as between meets and exceeds expectations, and <br />stated that he does not believe that anyone else could do the job as well. <br />Torkelson rated overall as exceeds expectations, and noted that at the end of the <br />day, there would be a difficult time replacing Hanson. He stated that Hanson <br />has made his time here good, and Hanson's exceptionalism has become the <br />norm. Montour rated overall as meets expectations plus. He noted that the bar <br />has been raised so it is harder to hit exceptional, and stated that Hanson's <br />leadership has allowed there to be staff that the Council is proud of. McGraw <br />rated overall as exceeds expectations and stated that Hanson has built and <br />maintained a great working environment for staff, and has a very high level of <br />professionalism, which is not an easy thing to get to or maintain.
