MINUTES
CITY COUNCLI.
JANUARY 9, 2002
RESOLUTION NO. 2002-I-4 -GIVEN THAT THE /NITIAL DESIGN OF
THE I-G94/EDGERTON BRIDGE PROJECT APPEARS TO HAVE
SIGNIFICANT ADVERSE IMPACT ON THE PROPERTY OWNERS OF
LITTLE CANAUA, THE CITY COUNCIL. URGES MN DOT TO
EXPLORE OTHER ALTERNATIVES THAT WO(IL,D HAVE A LESS
DRAMATIC IMPACT ON THIS AREA
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle.
Ayes (5) Fahey, LaValle, Anderson, Montour, Scalze.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
The Director reported that the design of the Edgerton bridge will be completed
this year and MN DOT hopes to begin construction in 2003.
The Director reviewed three design concepts for the bridge and explained each
in detail. After reviewing these designs, it was the consensus of the Council
that Concept A was preferred for the bridge design, but that the railing design
should be as shown in Concept C.
Anderson suggested that rather than placing directional signs on the bridges,
that these signs be placed along the roadside. Council agreed.
Anderson asked if there would be a walking path across the bridge. The
Director replied that there would be two 8-foot wide shoulders as well as a
sidewalk on one side of the bridge.
Montow' asked if there was a portion of the bridge that the City could place
community identification elements on. It was noted, however, that the
Edgerton Street bridge would be located entirely in the City of Vadnais
Heights.
The Director replied that there would be areas for community identification.
He noted that the same theme will be carried down 35E and 1-694. Therefa'e,
whatever is decided as the theme for community identification will be featured
on other bridges as they are reconstructed, including the Little Canada Road
bridge some time in the future.
Scalze stated that she did not want to see electrical poles running across the
bridges.
Fahey asked how the City of Vadnais Heights feels about raising the bridge.
The Director stated that he did not discuss this with Vadnais Heights. Fahey
stated that while he likes the design of the bridge, he would prefer the roadway
