I want to urge
further deliberation on allowing residents to own chickens within the city limits.
Please take more time to liberate on the ordinance regarding the backyard
chickens. Have we asked the right questions? Understand the issues? Thought
through options that could be win-win on both sides of the issue? What is in the
city's role to alleviate some issues instead of totally rejecting it? Are there
compelling reasons to reject it? Especially if surrounding cities are okay with it.

I think most concerns could alleviated by requiring anyone desiring to keep
chickens to obtain a license from the city with conditions amenable to the non-
chicken keepers. The number of chickens limited and the price of the license
scaled to the number. Revocation based on complaints regarding noise,
appearance of habitat etc.

I’m not going to raise chickens here, but if others want to I’m ok with it under the
right conditions. For the record, I really like chickens. I think they are delicious. I
mean, pets that you can eat. What’s not to like?

Well, good luck. I really think this isn’t that big a deal. I don’t see thousands of
Little Canadians becoming chicken ranchers. At least none of my neighbors have
ever revealed a great desire to do so and I know them pretty well.
