Staff is also looking for input on what amenities, if any, should be offered and if the
Commission feels that the Demont Avenue rink is the best option for conversion to a dog park.

UPDATE:

At the May 9, 2017 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting, the Commission agreed to move
forward with the conversion of the Demont Avenue rink to a dog park in the months that it is not
being utilized as a skating rink. In addition to the key tasks that need to be completed, the
Commission felt that adding a ‘comment box’ would be a beneficial way of getting feedback
from individuals using the dog park. The Commission also felt that adding two benches should
be a higher priority. The ‘rules’ list is very lengthy and staff will shorten that down to 5-8 key
rules for the dog park. If water is needed, staff will first look into a temporary water source and
see what kind of utilization it has. Staff believes costs will be minimal, with the majority coming
from the fencing and the benches. Staff is looking for Council approval to continue proceeding
with the dog park conversion at the Demont Avenue hockey rink.
27
