Park System Plan Chapter 3
City of Little Canada, Minnesota Parks and Recreation Plan

Preliminary Draft: February 27, 2009 3‐11

GERVAIS MILL PARK
LOCATION
Between Edgerton Street and Noel Drive, ½ block north of Little Canada
Road
SIZE
18 acres
CLASSIFICATION
Community Park
OVERVIEW
Gervais Mill Park is a cooperative project between the City of Little
Canada and the Ramsey‐Washington Metro Watershed District. This
historic park on Gervais Creek was once the site of the original Gervais
Grist Mill. The Watershed District constructed a series of three small
ponds that are designed to remove pollutants from the urban runoff in
Gervais Creek before the water enters Gervais Lake. The park has trails,
benches, fishing piers and abundant wildlife habitat.
EXISTING PARK FACILITIES
Historic Marker and Overlook (1)
Fishing Piers (2)
Pedestrian Bridges (2)
Benches (4)
Interpretive Signs (2)
Trails
Parking
TRAILS AND TRAIL CONNECTIONS
Gervais Mill Park has an extensive trail system with connections to
Spooner Park, Noel Drive, and Edgerton Street. The main trails are
bituminous surface, while secondary trails are wood chip surface.
Pedestrian bridges link trails across the channels between ponds. The
trail system has 3,000 lineal feet of bituminous surface along with wood
chip surface trails.
NATURAL RESOURCE DESCRIPTION
Gervais Creek is an important flowage into Gervais Lake. The ponds
that have been constructed as part of this flowage are an important
part of the purification system for water flowing into the lake. The
ponds are stocked with panfish and also provide important habitat for
ducks, geese, egrets, heron and many other species of pond life. The
park vegetation contains both native woodland and native grass/forbs.
There is substantial diversity including oaks, maples, aspen, ash,

Location Map – Gervais Mill Park
(Source: SWB, Inc./Ramsey County GIS)

Rendering of Historic Grist Mill by Bev
Scalze (Source: City of Little Canada
Website)

Fishing Pier – Gervais Mill Park (Source:
SWB, Inc.)
Pedestrian Bridge – Gervais Mill Park
(Source: SWB, Inc.)
