Chapter 3 Park System Plan
Parks and Recreation Plan City of Little Canada, Minnesota

3‐12 Preliminary Draft: February 27, 2009
cottonwood and linden. The park is home to many species of birds and
animals.
VISUAL RESOURCE DESCRIPTION
Gervais Mill Park is a beautiful, secluded area within the City. The
ponds, woodlands and wildlife provide great relief and solitude within
walking or biking distance of most Little Canada residents. The park is
surrounded by single family residences, with a nice wooded buffer
between the homes and the park.
ISSUES AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Gervais Mill Park is nearly complete, according to its master plan, and
therefore, future improvements will emphasize maintaining and
enhancing the current facilities. The following are issues and
recommendations:
1. Remove and control buckthorn, purple loosestrife, reed canary
grass and other exotic species.
2. The construction of the watershed district offices adjacent to
the site will provide opportunities for nature programs, meeting
facilities and on‐site expertise that has not been available
before. The previous park master plan called for a small nature
interpretive building; however, the Ramsey‐Washington Metro
Watershed District office should serve that purpose and
eliminate the need for that type of building.
3. A small picnic pavilion should be considered just west of the
parking lot off Edgerton Street. The potential for restrooms at
this location should also be discussed.
4. Continue to build on the cooperative partnership with the
Ramsey‐Washington Metro Watershed District.
5. Develop nature walks and interpretive programs to be offered
through the City recreation programs.

Trail – Gervais Mill Park (Source: SWB,
Inc.)

Pond – Gervais Mill Park (Source: SWB,
Inc.)

Trail – Gervais Mill Park (Source: SWB,
Inc.)
