Chapter 3 Park System Plan
Parks and Recreation Plan City of Little Canada, Minnesota

3‐14 Preliminary Draft: February 27, 2009

NADEAU WILDLIFE AREA
LOCATION
Demont and Jackson Streets
SIZE
4.96 acres
CLASSIFICATION
Neighborhood Park
OVERVIEW
The Nadeau Wildlife Area consists of both a developed neighborhood
park and an undeveloped wetland and wildlife area. The neighborhood
park is accessed from Lake Street east of Jackson Street and consists of
children's play area, benches, horseshoe court and open, mowed lawn
area. The wetland/wildlife area is south of the neighborhood park and
consists of wetlands with some open water that drains into Savage Lake
to the east. The wetland is an important part of the water quality
management for Savage Lake.
EXISTING PARK FACILITIES
Children's Play Area (1)
Benches
Horseshoe Court (1)
TRAIL AND TRAIL CONNECTIONS
The Nadeau Wildlife Area does not have any trails. There is access to
the City trail system at Jackson Street and Lake Street.
NATURAL RESOURCE DESCRIPTION
The wetland area is an important filtration and ponding area for Savage
Lake. There is a variety of wetland vegetation edged by a narrow band
of trees, many of which are cottonwood. The wetland provides
important habitat for waterfowl and other wetland species.
VISUAL RESOURCE DESCRIPTION
Along Lake Street, the Nadeau Wildlife Area presents an appropriate
image of a neighborhood park, with shade trees, mowed lawn and
children's play area that fit in nicely with the front yards of the
surrounding homes. Along Jackson Street and Demont, the wetland
area provides a somewhat abrupt natural open space.

Location Map – Nadeau Wildlife Area
(Source: SWB, Inc./Ramsey County GIS)

Play Area – Nadeau Wildlife Area
(Source: SWB, Inc.)

Play Area – Nadeau Wildlife Area
(Source: SWB, Inc.)

Natural Habitat – Nadeau Wildlife Area
(Source: SWB, Inc.)
