Chapter 3 Park System Plan
Parks and Recreation Plan City of Little Canada, Minnesota

3‐16 Preliminary Draft: February 27, 2009
OLD FIRE HALL
LOCATION
Little Canada Road east of McMenemy Street
SIZE
Approximately 2 acres
CLASSIFICATION
Neighborhood Park
OVERVIEW
The Old Fire Hall Park utilizes right‐of‐way owned by the St. Paul Water
Utility, along with the old fire hall, to provide facilities for pleasure ice
skating, hockey, and roller/board skating. The area used for pleasure
skating will be moved south of the hockey rink on property owned by St.
John’s church.
EXISTING PARK FACILITIES
Warming House
Hockey Rink/Outdoor (1)
Pleasure Skating Rink (1)
Skate Park
Meeting and Maintenance Facilities (Old Fire Hall)
TRAIL AND TRAIL CONNECTIONS
An unimproved neighborhood trail connects the area to the south. The
Spooner Park and Firefighters Trails connect north of Little Canada Road
and McMenemy Street.
NATURAL RESOURCE DESCRIPTION
The Old Fire Hall Park lies in a low flat area below Little Canada Road.
The east and west side slope up to adjacent properties. Those slopes
are wooded, with mixed vegetation.
VISUAL RESOURCE DESCRIPTION
The topography and wooded slopes provide a nice enclosure for the
park and a useful separation from adjacent residential properties.
ISSUES AND RECOMMENDATIONS
1. Recent lighting and skate park improvements have increased
the use of the area.
2. The warming house needs to be replaced or improved.
3. A surfaced trail should be provided to the south.

Location Map – Old Fire Hall (Source:
SWB, Inc./Ramsey County GIS)

Skate Park – Old Fire Hall (Source: City
of Little Canada Website)

Meeting Room – Old Fire Hall (Source:
City of Little Canada Website)
