24 CITY OF LITTLE CANADA | PARKS MASTER PLAN
Trail System Master Plan – Burnsville, MN
SEH worked with the City of Burnsville to develop a
comprehensive trail system plan that was based on trail
user needs and the trail plans of adjacent communities.
Features of the project include a 60-mile trail system plan
based on systematic identification of origins, destinations,
desire lines and restraints, a trail plan development that
considered design requirements, trail maintenance, signage
and public information.
SEH completed user needs analysis, assisted with public
facilitation, and provided an implementation process that
included funding source considerations.
Comprehensive Trail Guide Plan –
Lake Elmo, MN
SEH landscape architects and transportation engineers
employed a four-step planning process to develop a
Comprehensive Trail Guide Plan. The plan recommends
specific direction for the City to take in developing its trail
system. It also identifies future trail corridors, trailhead
facilities, trail standards and operational and management
policies. The plan provided connections among 20
specific destinations identified during the community
participation process, detailed design standards for bike
lanes and off-road trails and identified funding sources for
implementation.
ADDITIONAL SEH PARK AND RECREATION EXPERIENCE
Park and Trails System Plan – Burnsville, MN
The City of Burnsville’s extensive park system was originally
planned and built in concert with the community’s residential,
commercial, and employment areas. Having reached
the majority of park acquisition and improvement goals,
the updated park and trails plan focuses on maintaining,
renovating, and enhancing the existing park system.
Prior to joining SEH, Bob Kost evaluated current park and
trails system conditions, demographic trends and changing
community values, identified community-defined “Gemstone
Parks” in the park system, employed origin and destination
analysis to identify missing connections, and assisted the
City with neighborhood and community park system visioning
sessions.
