MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />June 7, 2017 <br />is still being worked on, and there will be a bag dispensary and trash can <br />on site. The Community Services Manager stated an agreement with the <br />school is also in process. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager stated the pickleball courts have been <br />resurfaced at Spooner Park and are already being used. He explained the <br />trees removed will be replaced with additional trees at another location in <br />the Park. The Community Services Manager explained Lee Surfacing in <br />Little Canada did a great job with the resurfacing, and was done faster <br />than anticipated. He stated Little Canada is having a demonstration on <br />June 27 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and this information is <br />also in the newsletter. The Community Services Manager stated pickleball <br />paddles and balls will be available for rent at City Hall. Chair Miller liked <br />the opportunity to rent the equipment. Horwath noted how great the courts <br />looked. Horwath made a motion to reline the Courts at Pioneer Park to <br />allow for pickleball in conjunction with their resurfacing. Schletty <br />seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously approved. The City <br />Administrator noted the timing was great since the courts were scheduled <br />to get resurfaced anyways. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager reported there would be two Movie in <br />the Park Events. He explained Sing would be on August 17 and Finding <br />Dory would be on August 31 at the Spooner Park band shell, beginning at <br />dusk. The Community Services Manager noted he didn’t have any <br />activities planned in conjunction with the movie, but he was working with <br />the LCRA to provide concessions. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager reported basketball, soccer, soccer <br />clinic, and volleyball league registration is open for this fall. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager stated the Parks and Recreation Saints <br />Bus Trip was sold out. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager updated the Commission on the status <br />of the Gilbertson Field sign, stating it had been replaced with a plastic <br />material. He explained the name was spelt “Alan Gilbertson” and although <br />that is incorrect legally, that it how Alan spelt his name. His proper name <br />was spelt Allan. The Community Services Manager even had the name <br />crosschecked from the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C and it was <br />spelt “Alan”. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manger reported the Farmer’s Market start date <br />was pushed back and will begin on July 10, to give more time to find <br />vendors. <br />Chair Miller asked about the Ice Cream Social. The Community Services <br />Manager stated he would have an update at the next meeting.
