MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />June 7, 2017 <br />become much more sophisticated in recent years, especially biking on <br />highly trafficked streets. He indicated there are innovative ideas that may <br />help connect biking opportunities within the City. <br /> <br />Chair Miller stated he would like to see the East and West sections of the <br />City better connected. Kost noted this is a good time to be aspirational and <br />consider all possibilities. He suggested a bike and pedestrian bridge to <br />connect the two sides of the City. Kost stated each park is a destination <br />and it is important to look at how people can get there. <br /> <br />Chu stated additional signage, and trailhead information would be helpful <br />to allow people to choose a shorter or longer route depending on their <br />time. Kost stated this could also have information on where benches and <br />rest points are located to help make people feel more comfortable <br />choosing a new route. Chair Miller suggested this discussion be continued <br />at a workshop before the July meeting at 5:30. <br /> <br />Sullivan stated she would like to see more connectedness throughout the <br />City, and a safe way for residents to get to parks. Horwath reminded the <br />Commission that big ideas are good, but they are also expensive. Chu <br />thanked Kost and Springer for helping define ways to meet people where <br />they are at to gather their input. Chair Miller thanked SEH for their <br />presentation. Kost shared his enthusiasm to begin the Parks Master Plan <br />process. <br /> <br />Darling asked how SEH would advertise their presence at Canadian Days. <br />She suggested a float in the parade to spread the word about the Parks <br />Master Plan Process. The City Administrator stated staff would bring <br />ideas to the next meeting. Chair Miller stated there would be a <br />workshop prior to the July 6th meeting at 5:30 to continue the park <br />needs discussion. <br /> <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager reported the next Market Place <br />Morning Talk topic is Keeping our Spirit Renewed on June 14 at 9:30 a.m. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager reported the Veteran’s Memorial Park <br />dedication would be on June 14 at 5:00 p.m. and the Commission is <br />invited to attend. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager reported Ramsey County would have <br />their annual Hotdog with a Deputy event on June 27 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. <br />in Pioneer Park. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager reported the dog park is almost <br />complete, and the sign is being finalized.
