MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />MARCH 27, 2002 <br />Montour asked about landscaping. Strohbeen indicated that there would be <br />landscaping around the building and plantings that would help address the <br />building's appearance from Noel Drive. <br />There was no one from the general public present wishing to comment on this <br />matter. <br />Upon motion by LaValle, seconded by Fahey, the public hearing was closed. <br />Mr. LaValle introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION NO.2002-2-67 -APPROVING THE REZONING OF 477 <br />LITTLE CANADA ROAD FROM GENERAL BUSINESS (B-3) TO AUTO <br />ORIENTED BUSINESS (B-2) AND APPROVING THE AMENDMENT TO <br />THE EXISITING CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT TO ALLOW <br />CONSTR UCTION OF A 50 FOOT BY 40 FOOT STORAGE B UILDINC <br />SUBJECT TO COMPLIANCE WITH THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF <br />THE PLANNING COMMISSION AND RESTRICTING THE USE OF <br />THE BUILDING TO STORAGE ONLY, AND PROHIBITING THE <br />PLACEMENT OFANYSIGNAGE ONTHE BUILDING <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Fahey. <br />Ayes (5) LaValle, Fahey, Scalze, Montour, Anderson. <br />Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. <br />BUS BENCHES Fahey opened the continued Public Hearing to consider a Zoning Code <br />AS TEMPORARY Amendment permitting temporary signs on bus benches in the public <br />SIGNAGE right-of--way by special license. The Planning Commission recommended <br />approval of the Zoning Code Amendment subject to the conditions outlined in <br />their minutes of March 18°i. <br />Scalze noted that staff has provided bus ridership data from 1999, which is the <br />most recent data available from Metro Transit. Scalze indicated that she has <br />been thinking about one of the City's 2002 goals for putting together a plan to <br />improve community identify. She suggested that bus benches provided by the <br />City with the City logo on them may be one means of promoting community <br />identity. She noted from staffls survey on how other cities address bus <br />benches that the City of Falcon Heights is pursuing the idea ofCity-sponsored <br />bus benches. Scalze reported that while the City's bus benches along Little <br />Canada Road had a price tag of approximately $700 each, a less expensive <br />bench could be placed in other areas. One option to help pay for the benches <br />would be to have local businesses sponsor the benches and install a small <br />plaque on the bench recognizing the business.
