September, 2017 <br /> <br />CITY OF LITTLE CANADA <br />POSITION DESCRIPTION <br /> <br /> <br />Position Title: Apprentice Maintenance Worker <br /> <br />Department: Public Works <br /> <br />Accountable To: Public Works Director <br />_______________________________________________________________________ <br /> <br />PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION <br /> <br />Employee will be trained in on the job in all aspects of public works maintenance tasks. Assists <br />in the maintenance of streets, parks and grounds, municipal water and sewer systems involving <br />the use of manual labor and the operation of all Public Works equipment. Performs semi-skilled <br />and unskilled work in the maintenance and repair of municipal water, sewer, street, and park <br />systems. Performs other duties and responsibilities as needed. It is anticipated that as <br />experience is gained, more difficult tasks and assignments will be assigned. Employee will have <br />the opportunity to acquire Class B commercial driver’s license. The goal is to develop people <br />and provide them with the skills and training necessary to move into a full-time public works <br />position. <br /> <br /> <br />MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES <br /> <br />1. Routine maintenance and repair of City streets: <br /> <br />a. Operates snowplow equipment in the clearing and removal of snow from streets, <br />parking lots, trails, sidewalks, and fire hydrants. <br /> <br />b. Operates dump truck for de-icing of City streets during and after snowfalls once <br />commercial driver’s license has been obtained and employee has been properly <br />trained. <br /> <br />c. Installs street signs, barricades, and warning lights in order to ensure safety of <br /> residents. <br /> <br />d. Drives dump truck for hauling materials such as gravel, asphalt, sand, etc. once <br />commercial driver’s license has been obtained. <br /> <br />e. Repairs blacktop on streets using blacktop tools, skidsteer, hot box, etc. <br /> <br />f. Works with crack filling and sealcoat contractors as well as street improvement <br />contractors. <br />
