• Flood lights in an older style to generally match those shown between the bays should be used.
They should also be LED. Motion detection activation was also suggested.
• The overhead doors were felt to be in good shape. At a minimum, they should be painted.
Depending on cost and feasibility, the preferred choice would to be “wrap” the existing door
panels that could create the “old style door” appearance versus purchasing new doors at an
estimated cost of $4,000 to $5,000 per door.
• Bollards should be installed in front of the garage doors for protection rather than using the
plating on the door frames. They should be painted to match the building.
• The chimney on the west side of the building is in poor condition. City should try to eliminate
the chimney if the heating system venting can be easily re-routed.
• The flag pole on the west side of the building should be cleaned up or repaired. It was not
deemed necessary to fly a flag on the pole (or light it if a US Flag were to be flown.)
• All metal flashing around the overhead door frames needs to be replaced. There was some
discussion if the frames should be wood or metal surface and the group was leaning toward
metal.
• The Old Fire Hall lettering on the exterior should be replaced and centered on the building.
Lighting could be from the flood lights.
• There was some talk about removing the grass area on the west side of the building. Bill
Dircks pointed out that the water service is in this area and would be exposed if this area was
removed. The group felt no changes should be made given that situation.
• The service doors should be repainted or replaced, if necessary.
• Repair air conditioner bases. They are currently unstable and could damage lines or
compressor.
• Given the nature of the work, it is likely the total cost of the project will exceed $100,000.
With coordination issues between various work items and to ensure bids are received on an
“apples to apples” basis, an architect should be retained to prepare specifications for the work
to be undertaken.

To budget for the improvements you deem worthwhile, your direction as to how we should proceed.

cc: Committee Members
