MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />August 2, 2017 <br />Manager stated both posters would be interactive and people would be <br />able to put stickers next to their choices. He reported SEH would also <br />walk around with a wagon and poster to get additional input, and the <br />Planner would also have a poster to promote the Comprehensive Plan. In <br />addition, the City would have a float in the Canadian Days Parade to <br />remind people to take the Comprehensive Plan Survey. The Community <br />Services Manager stated he would have can coolers, business cards, and <br />candy to hand out during the parade. He explained Public Works would <br />place a large banner on the new dump truck that says “Help Shape our <br />Future”. Chair Miller asked how long the survey would be available for. <br />The Community Services Manager said the survey would be available <br />through September 5th. He stated there are also prizes people can win for <br />completing the survey including hockey sweatshirts, or gift cards. <br /> <br />Chair Miller asked if the City could put a note in the Utility Bills <br />reminding people to take the survey. The Community Services Manager <br />stated there was a message in the most recent bills. He explained social <br />media would also be used to entice more responses. Chair Miller asked if <br />the message could be displayed on the Fire Department sign. The <br />Community Services Manager stated he would ask the Fire Chief. <br /> <br /> <br />The City Administrator reported it was time to begin planning the budget <br />for 2018. He reminded the Commission they had created a prioritization <br />list of projects The City Administrator asked them to reevaluate the list to <br />help staff and the City Council when putting together the budget. He <br />reminded the Commission that three projects were being done this year <br />including planting trees around the Pioneer Park pond, repurposing the <br />Demont Rink to accommodate a dog park, and repurposing the tennis <br />courts for dual use of tennis and pickleball. <br /> <br />The City Administrator noted the top of the prioritization list discussed <br />improvements to the Gervais Mill Park Garden, Spooner Park play area <br />improvements, and Pioneer Park play area improvements. He explained <br />the wow factor park at Pioneer Park may require more than what the list <br />has budgeted for this item. <br /> <br />The City Administrator suggested the Commission consider a few <br />additional priorities that have been previously discussed including a <br />drinking fountain at Gervais Mill Park, and a sidewalk on Noel Drive from <br />City Hall to Gervais Mill Park. He explained there were also a few more <br />opportunities that have come up in the past year including a walking trail <br />loop through waterworks, Sextant, and Sunset Court; reforestation of all <br />parks, and purchase of the Sculley property for a nature area. The City <br />Administrator continued that with the Comprehensive Plan update in <br />process he was also seeing a need for smaller expenses including replacing <br />2018 BUDGET <br />PLANNING
