MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />September 7, 2017 <br /> <br />The City Administrator thanked the Commission for their help at <br />Canadian Days. He noted what a big impact their presence and <br />involvement made. The Community Services manager stated he received <br />many compliments for having staff representatives at the event. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager reported the next Market Place <br />Morning Talk topic is Five Wishes: The Living Will on September 13, <br />2017 at 9:30am. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager reported the movie in the park events <br />went well. He stated about 60 people attended the first movie and about 75 <br />attended the second movie. The Community Services Manager explained <br />Twilight Zone set up the movie and the cost was about $1500 for each <br />movie. The Community Services Manager explained Facebook helped <br />reach a larger audience, and there seemed to be a lot of interest. He <br />planned to have even more movie in the park events next year, and look <br />into having an indoor version this winter. The Community Services <br />manager hoped to have it at the Little Canada Elementary School gym. <br />Horwath stated the sign at the Old Fire Hall also helped advertise the <br />event. Horwath suggested using the boost feature on Facebook to advertise <br />events to a wider audience for a small fee. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manger reported the Farmers Market was held <br />every Monday from 2:30 – 6:00 p.m through October 9th. He explained <br />there were 6 vendors and a master gardener. Darling asked if there were a <br />lot of customers. The Community Services Manager explained there were <br />a good amount of customers frequenting the market, but thought more <br />vendors would attract more people. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager reported all of the courts had been <br />resurfaced, and suggestions based on pickleball guidelines had been taken <br />into consideration for the courts at Pioneer. He explained a different color <br />was used to differentiate out of bounds lines, and was happy with the final <br />product which was done by Lee Sports Surfacing. The Community <br />Services Manager stated the Pioneer Park basketball hoops would need to <br />be replaced soon. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager reported volleyball and the soccer <br />clinic would begin next week, and basketball would start in November. An <br />instructor was still needed for gymnastics. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager reported square dancing classes begin <br />next Thursday September 14th from 7:00 -9:00p.m. and the first lesson you <br />attend is free.
