Rusty Fifield, Hoisington Koegler,
CROSSLNGS and Jim "folaas, Ramsey County, appeared before the Council to present
PROJF,CT conceptual plans for the redesign and redevelopment of the 694/Rice Street area.
Fifield reported that Ramsey County Public Works will be leaving their Rice Street
site in 2004- This site will then become available for redevelopment. In addition,
given the 694/Rice Street bridge project and its impact on the surrounding area, plans
are now being developed for the redevelopment of the area. It was noted that the
property affected lies primarily in Shoreview as well as in Vadnais Heights and Little
Canada.
Fifield reviewed in detail conceptual plans for redevelopment of the properties
abutting the (94/Rice Sheet interchange. One of the conceptual drawings included
loop road over the interchange. I` itield reviewed the design elements shown on each
of the plans including proposed realignment of roads. He pointed out that road re-
alignment in Little Canada may involve the moving of Country Drive further to the
south. While this would necessitate the elimination of the Taco John's building, the
re-alignment would create the opportwtity for redevelopment within Little Canada.
