WORKSHOP MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />LITTLE CANADA, MINNESOTA <br /> <br />September 7th, 2017 <br /> <br /> Chair Dave Miller called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. and the following <br />members of the commission were present: <br /> <br /> MEMBERS PRESENT: Ms. Rose Chu <br /> Ms. Sharen Darling <br /> Mr. Ron Horwath <br /> Mr. Dave Miller <br /> Mr. Tom Ray <br /> Mr. Peter Schletty <br /> Ms. Patti Sullivan <br /> <br /> <br />ALSO PRESENT: Mr. Bryce Shearen, Parks and Recreation <br />Community Services Manager <br /> Mr. Joel Hanson, City Administrator <br /> Mr. Tom Fischer City Council Member <br /> Mr. Bob Kost Landscape Architect <br /> Ms. Anna Springer Landscape Architect <br /> Ms. Anna Leibel Recording Secretary <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Springer presented a summary of the current status of the Parks Master Plan <br />Update. She explained the needs assessment, inventory of parks, trails and <br />recreation opportunities, and park classification updates have been completed. <br />Springer stated they had decided to change several park classifications to more <br />accurately reflect the nature of the parks. A list of the changes is below. <br />Park Current Classification New Classification <br />Gervais Lake Beach Beach County Park <br />Gervais Mill Park Community Park Natural Area <br />Fire Barns Skate Park Neighborhood Park Special Use Park <br />Veteran’s Memorial Park Neighborhood Park Special Use Park <br />Little Canada Elementary School Community Park School Site <br />Thunder Bay/Westwinds Park Neighborhood Park Linear Park <br /> <br />Springer also spoke about the community engagement aspects that have been <br />completed thus far. She estimated about 200 people interacted with the Parks <br />displays and wagon at Canadian Days. Ray noted this was an effective tool that <br />got all ages involved with the planning process. Springer agreed and explained <br />the feedback they received showed that completing trail connections seemed to <br />PARKS MASTER <br />PLAN UPDATE: <br />COMMUNITY <br />ENGAGEMENT
