MINUTES CITY COUNCIL SEPTEMBER 27, 2017 PRESENTATION — Ramsey County Sheriff Jack Serier stated that he is here for his annual RAMSEY COUNTY update with the contract cities. He introduced Steve Frazer, who is SHERIFF, JACK currently the Regional Special Services Division Undersheriff, but he will SERIER be the new Chief Deputy starting on November 1. Sheriff Serier stated that he feels it is important to reach out to the community, which has a very diverse population, created a community circle for race and gender equity for hiring and promoting in the sheriff s department. He reported that over 50% of the academy classes this year for both deputies and correctional officers have been women or people of color. He stated that when he became sheriff, he committed to following through with a staffing study, and has received authority to hire for the detention center to be fully staffed, which it will be by December 2017. Sheriff Serier stated the Sheriff s Department will be taking over the policing services for Falcon Heights in 2018 and will be hiring six new deputies for that addition. He reported that the Hot Dog with a Deputy events this summer were a huge success again. He noted that last year, they averaged giving out 400 hot dogs per event. This year, the average was 800 hot dogs per event. He explained that the funding of youth initiatives financed by the Ramsey County Sheriff s Foundation. He stated that they support all school patrol program in suburban Ramsey County. He also added that money is raised through the Ramsey County Fright Farm at the Ramsey County fairgrounds. Keis stated that he appreciated the event in Little Canada and all of the equipment that the various departments brought for show. Montour asked if there would be more stability in the crime prevention position. Sheriff Serier stated it would be nice, but there have been a lot of promotions for the people who have been in that position in the last few years. PUBLIC The Associate Planner stated that Lee Rossow is the owner of 3164 Ryan HEARING— Lane, and is asking that his Interim Use Permit for outdoor storage be INTERIM USE renewed to continue allowing Q3 Contracting to lease outdoor storage on PERMIT his property. She noted that the property is zoned 1-1, and also has a RE ISSUANCE conditional use permit that allows accessory outdoor storage for building FOR OUTDOOR tenants. She explained that a five year interim use permit was issued in STORAGE AT 2010, and staff caught the oversight of not having this permit renewed 3164 RYAN LANE; during the inspection and renewal of the outdoor storage license. The APPLICANT: LEE Associate Planner reviewed the conditions and recommended back -dating ROSSOW this interim use permit to August 25, 2015 since there has been no lapse in use.
