MINUTES PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION October 5, 2017 The Community Services Manager reported SEH had concluded the interviews and was looking for the Commission’s input on a plan for the wow park. The Commission was concerned that the interviews had been supposed to provide ideas for the wow park, and thought a summary of the individual interview comments was necessary to move forward. The Community Services Manager stated the interviews were confidential, but would ask if an overall summary could be put together. He explained SEH was looking for direction because a destination park is not something they hear often and they were unsure what the Commission wanted. The Community Services Manager stated SEH had explained the majority of people interviewed wanted a park for Little Canada residents. Horwath stated he was in favor of a park that would put Little Canada on the map. Chair Miller stated he was in favor of a park for Little Canada residents. Ray noted he wanted to see something that was different than the typical playground features which would benefit Little Canada residents, but could bring in people from surrounding cities. Councilman Fischer stated there is opportunity to consider enhancements like a splash pad at Pioneer Park, but he was not in favor of something that would attract people from all over to Pioneer Park. He explained if the Commission really wanted to create a destination, he was in favor of having something closer to the central business district. Ray suggested a town square concept in the open parcel East of Culvers near the Marketplace. Horwath moved the meeting be adjourned Motion seconded by Darling. Motion carried 5 – 0.
