MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL WORKSHOP
NOVEMBER 20, 2017
per month, but the rent varies based on the room type and care needed. He
noted that they will accept elderly waivers since they do not want their residents
to have to move after they run out of their own funds.
The City Administrator asked about the market studies the developers have
done. Mr. Larson stated they look at a variety of information, but they have
found a big need for this specific type of facility. He explained that once
someone gets to where they need two people to lift and assist, most assisted
living facilities do not provide that high acuity level of care. He stated that there
are very few beds available in the state for this care level, and the state has not
added more nursing home beds in many years. The City Administrator stated
that Staff recently met with Mr. Larson and Mr. Foster, and indicated to them
that during the Comprehensive Plan discussion, the Council showed concern for
adding more senior housing. Mr. Larson added that they do not use vinyl siding
and put stone on the exteriors.
The Council agreed that there appears to be a need for this high level of assisted
living, but that 93 West Little Canada Road may not be the best site for it.
There was Council consensus for the Council to tour the Suite Living facility in
Vadnais Heights, and Staff will coordinate a time on either December 6 or 13.
There being no further business, the workshop was adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
2,Z
John YKeis, Mayor
Attest:
oel nson, Cityy Administrator
2
