He noted the finalized version would be ready in February or March.

The Community Services Manager presented the prioritization list and the
first eight had been programmed into the Capital Improvements Plan. He
asked the Commission to review the list and approve a final version. Ray
made a motion to approve the top eight prioritized projects. Schletty
seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously approved.

The Community Services Manager reported that in 2015 the City received
a donation from Deb Behles, in memory of her father David Behles, a
Little Canada youth sports coach. He explained the donation was to be
used for Little Canada families that are in need of financial help for their
children to participate in our recreational activities. The Community
Services Manager stated staff created a standardized form for people to
request financial assistance. He explained this would also make it easier to
formulate an annual report for the Behles family. The Community
Services Manager stated staff recommended subsidizing 80% of the cost
of the activity. He explained the average cost is $56, and using the
proposed guidelines this would cover $44.80, and the family would pay
$11.20. The Community Services Manager stated most communities use
the free/reduced lunch program to qualify for financial assistance. Darling
asked if other communities ask for documentation showing their
free/reduced lunch qualification. The Community Services Manager
indicated it was a common practice and would only require a phone call to
the school. He stated staff would like to better promote this opportunity in
the Le Petit, at the schools, and through programs like the YMCA
Program at Montreal Courts Apartments. Chu asked if scholarships would
still be offered once the Behles money has been used. The Community
Services Manager stated the Little Canada Recreation Association also
offers scholarship opportunities. Chair Miller made a motion to approve
the form and further promotion of the scholarship opportunity.
Darling seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously approved.
FINALIZE
2018 BUDGET
PLANNING
BEHLES
SCHOLARSHIP
FORM
