STAFF REPORT

TO: Mayor Keis and Members of City Council
FROM: Heidi Heller, City Clerk
DATE: December 15, 2017
RE: 2018 Parks & Recreation Commission Appointments
2018 Parks & Recreation Commission Chair Appointment

The terms of office for Dave Miller, Sharen Darling and Patti Sullivan will expire on December
31, 2017. Ms. Sullivan has reached her three term limit. At this time, there are three 3-year
terms on the Parks & Recreation Commission to fill.

The City has received letters requesting reappointments from Sharen Darling and Dave Miller.
Letters of interest was also received from Anna Abruzzese and John Waters.

The Parks & Recreation Commission Interview Committee consisted of Council Members
Montour and Fischer, Parks & Rec/Community Services Manager Shearen, and City
Administrator Hanson. The interview committee was very pleased with both of the applicants.
The consensus of the Interview Committee is that Sharen Darling and Dave Miller should be
reappointed to 3-year terms, Anna Abruzzese be appointed to a 3-year term, and the letter of
interest submitted by John Waters should be kept on file in the event of a future Commission
vacancy. The Council will need to decide if they agree with this recommendation.

Please also note that the Parks & Recreation Commission Ordinance calls for the Mayor to make
a recommendation for Parks & Recreation Commission Chair. Mayor Keis will make that
recommendation at Wednesday’s meeting, with the Council making the actual appointment. The
Commission will select their own Vice Chair at their first meeting in January.
