MINUTUS <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />JULY 24, 2002 <br />It was noted that some of the illegal pa~i<ing problem on the property in question adds <br />to the erosion of dirt and sand into this area. <br />Fahey suggested that the City Administrator, City Attorney, SherifT"s Department, <br />Building Otlicial, and Code Enforcement Officer get together and develop a plan of <br />action for addressing the problems at this property. rahey suggested that the Council <br />is open to amending the City's Ordinances to assist in resolving the problems. <br />One property owner reported that there is a dealer's license that is moved from one <br />car to another at the property in question. In contacting the State with the license <br />plate number, he learned that the plat had been reported as lost. The property owner <br />indicated that he would provide this information to the City Administrator. <br />The Council also discussed a means of regulating occupancy ofsingle-family homes. <br />Anderson reported that it is his understanding that the City of Lauderdale has <br />addressed this issue, and suggested that City staff obtain information as to the course <br />of action that city has taken, <br />rahey noted that he has reviewed the Code Enforcement Officer's report, and he is in <br />agreement with the enforcement style that he utilizes. That is, initially taking a <br />friendly approach and moving slowly toward a hard line when cooperation is not <br />forthcoming. Fle also noted the Code Enforcement Officer's comments on the <br />workload, and asked what his intent was in this regard. <br />`fhe Code Enforcement Officer indicated that he wanted to make the Council aware <br />of the workoad so that they would understanding that some code enforcement <br />problems would not be resolved quickly. He noted that priorities are the day-to-day <br />complaints, Ryan Industrial Parl<, and the Rice Sheet area. Enforcement takes time <br />and is a slow process. <br />Scalze expressed concern with semi-trailers that are used for additional office and <br />storage space. Scalze felt that the problem seems to be growing, and stated that she <br />would like more attention directed at this problem. <br />Anderson suggested that as property owners make licensing or development requests, <br />this would be a good time to also address code issues and bring properties into <br />compliance. The Code Enforcement Officer indicated that he has told automotive <br />businesses that the City would not renew their licenses until there is code compliance. <br />The Council also discussed the tact that some property owners own multiple sites, <br />and suggested that perhaps some pressure can be put on these owners to clean up <br />problem sites even if development or licensing requests pertain to other properties <br />they own. <br />John Keis noted recent action by the Council eliminating outdoor storage from the <br />3 <br />
