n~-NUT-~s
CITY COUNCIL
JULY 24, 2002
use on the back should the redevelopment of the front property not occur under a
timetable that is established between the City and property owner.
With regard to code enl=orcement priorities, the City Adminisuator indicated that the
focus has been largely reactive, although a proactive approach has been taken with
Ryan Industrial Park. The Administrator asked the Council if they had any issues
that they would like addressed with regard to code enforcement.
Scalze felt that the area of enforcement that is lacking is that of the use of trailers for
additional office and storage space.
The Administrator also noted that there has been a problem with continuity in having
a consistent staff person in the position. It is the type of position that takes a while to
get up to speed, and turnover has delayed progress in the area of proactive code
enforcement. The Administrator also noted that code enforcement is broader than
just the Code L-'n{'orcement O{licer, incorporating the Fire Marshal, Building
inspector, Ramsey County and the Sheriff's DeparCment, as well as the City Planner.
`fhe Administrator reported that all these entities do a good job of coordinating with
one another.
Fahey indicated that he would like to see periodic code enforcement reports.
Scalze pointed out the need to establish some code enforcement priorities so the Code
Enforcement O1Ticer has some additional direction. There was not enough time this
evening to develop the priority list.
The Code Enforcement Oi~~icer indicated that he is currently taking his direction from
the City Administrator in this regard.
'There being no fiu'ther business, the workshop meeting was adjourned at 7:28 p.m.
1 ~ ~L~W
Micrel I.
