MINUTES
CITY COl1NCIL,
JULY 24, 2002
D.A.R.E. program unless it is offered additionally at the middle school
level at no increased cost over current ftmding levels. The City
Administrator also noted the position of D.A.R.E. America that the
program is not effective unless it is added at the middle school level in
addition to elementary school. The Administrator further reported that the
Mounds View School District is considering eliminating the funding of
D.A.R.E., and the Roseville School District has reallocated their funding
dollars to other prevention programs in their elementary schools within the
City of Roseville. Given the questionable future of D.A,R.E., the City
Administrator recommended that Little Canada eliminate its D. A.R.L.
funding in the event that the other cities contracting with the Ramsey
County Sheritf"s Department decide to withdraw from the program. The
Council agreed, and if D.A.R.E. funding is eliminated, instructed the City
Administrator to encourage the Roseville School District to replace the
~n'ogram with other prevention programs similar to those they are utilizing
within the City of Roseville.
Mr. Fahey introduced the R>Ilo~~~ing resolution and moved its adoption:
RE.SOL U%'/ON NO. 20112-7-I b'l - D/.SCONTINU/NG l,l'!'TLE
C'AN`ADA'.S /~ U~~'D/NG OF TfIIs D.
