MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JULY 24, 2002
portion of the parking proposed within the storage yard would block their
access to the back corner of the building.
Fahey pointed out that the City Planner and City staff have indicated their
position that the outdoor storage use proposed for this site is not consistent
with the existing uses in the area, and that there is the ability to expand the
existing building on the property.
Anderson pointed out that the Sheriff's Department's position on
screening of outdoor storage is completely contrary to that of the City's.
'T'he Sheriff would like visibility into the storage area due to public safety
concerns. IUoskin stated that he was in agreement with the Sheriffs
Deparhnent's position, but was willing to comply with the City's
screening requirements.
Montour asked about the outdoor storage yard that Kloskin mentioned.
IUoskin reported that his current operation stores approximately 250 boats
over the winter months. Ne is not proposing the Little Canada location as
a winter storage site, and has secured property in another city for this
storage. IUoskin also noted that he has moved the proposed fence inward
reducing the outdoor storage area from what was originally proposed.
LaValle asked if the outdoor storage [Uoskin is seeking in Little Canada
would be used for boats that were awaiting repairs as well as new boat
deliveries for display in the showroom or waiting to be picked up by
buyers. IUoskin replied that that was correct.
Montow' asked how long boats waiting to be serviced would be stored at
the site. Kloskin indicated that they encourage customers to pick up their
boats as soon as possible after servicing is completed. I Iowever,
depending on the weather and the time of year, the boats may have to be
stored on site for a period of time.
Montour asked how many of the parking spaces are allocated for new
inventory and how many were for boats being serviced. Kloskin estimated
that 25 of the approximately 70 spaces were for new inventory and the
remainder for boats being serviced.
Montour pointed out that boat servicing is similar Co auto servicing and
compared this business to an auto service business that was storing
approximately 50 vehicles on site waiting to be serviced.
The City Planner noted that the City has placed a limitation on the number
of vehicles stored for service at some auto service businesses.
