WORKSHOP MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />LITTLE CANADA, MINNESOTA <br /> <br />February 22nd, 2018 <br /> <br /> Chair Dave Miller called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and the following <br />members of the commission were present: <br /> <br /> MEMBERS PRESENT: Ms. Anna Abruzzese <br /> Ms. Rose Chu <br /> Ms. Sharen Darling <br /> Mr. Ron Horwath <br /> Mr. Dave Miller <br /> Mr. Peter Schletty <br /> <br />MEMBERS ABSENT: Mr. Tom Ray <br /> <br /> <br />ALSO PRESENT: Mr. Bryce Shearen, Parks and Recreation <br />Community Services Manager <br /> Mr. Joel Hanson, City Administrator <br /> Mr. Tom Fischer, City Council Member <br /> Mr. Bob Kost, SEH Landscape Architect <br /> Ms. Anna Springer, SEH Landscape Arc. <br /> Ms. Anna Leibel, Recording Secretary <br /> <br /> <br />Kost reported everyone at the Open House gave good feedback for the <br />plan. He noted there were about 20 people that signed in. Kost stated he <br />wanted to spend time discussing Spooner Park, because the Commission <br />hadn’t spent much time on the park and the Canadian Days Committee <br />had a few items they would like addressed. He explained the comments <br />from the Open House were on one of the handouts and there was a specific <br />section with comments regarding Spooner Park from the Canadian Days <br />Committee. The first comment stated, “Provide direct park access [to <br />Spooner Park] off of Centerville Rd. and build a new parking lot and park <br />entry trail in the wooded area.” Kost asked if the Commission had ever <br />discussed this. The Community Services Manager stated he had asked the <br />City Engineer to estimate the cost and feasibility of a new entrance and <br />trail off of Centerville Road. He explained there were many barriers. The <br />Community Services Manager stated Centerville is a County road, so the <br />City would first have to get permission from the County. He noted a <br />significant amount of regrading and tree removal would have to be done, <br />and a new entrance off Centerville Road would have to cross the current <br />pedestrian sidewalk.
