Fahey called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and the following
members of the City Council were present at roll call:
CITY COUNCIL:
Mayor
Council Member
Council Member
Council Member
Council Member
Mr. Michael L Fahey
Ms. Beverly Scalze
Mr. Tim LaValle
Mr. Matt Anderson
Mr. Rick Montour
ALSO PRESENT
City Administrator
Sheriffs Dept.
Sheriffs Dept.
Cable TV Producer
Mr. Joel R. Hanson
Undersheriff George Altendorfer
Deputy Ron Valento
Mr. Jeremy Brodin
CRIME HOT Undersheriff George Altendorfer, Ramsey County Sheriff s Department
SPOTS appeared before the Council to review crime statistics for the City of Little Canada
and to discuss with the Council various crime prevention efforts currently being
undertaken as well as addition efforts that could be focused upon. Altendorfer began
by reviewing a chat showing calls for service for the seven contracting cities that
covers the years 1995 through 2001. He noted that the number of calls per service
have stayed fairly constant over this time period at between 25,000 to 26,000.
Altendorfer next presented a graph that shows the calls per service for each of the
seven contracting cities for this time period. Again, the calls for service have
remained fairly level with calls in Little Canada ranging from a low of 4,858 in 1999
to a high of 5,690 in 1996.
Altendorfer noted that one of the efforts of the contracting cities and the Sheriff's
Department was to add a Rice Street corridor squad in 1995. This has allowed the
Department to respond to calls more effectively and minimize response times.
Altendorfer noted, however, that even though calls for service have remained
constant, the deputies are required to put in more time per call given additional
reporting requirements, etc. related to DWI laws and domestic abuse calls.
LaValle asked if the calls were based on case numbers generated. Altendorfer replied
that the number of calls are based on case number given that this number most
accurately reflects the resources that are being used.
