MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 23, 2002
SIGN
REVIEW -
SNYDERS
DRUG
STORE
There was no one present from the general public wishing to comment on this matter.
Upon motion by LaValle, seconded by Scalze, the public hearing was closed.
Mr. LaValle introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOI UTION NO. 2002-IO-237 -APPROVING THE PROPERTY LINE
REL OCATION FOR 3244 AND 3246 TWIN LAKE ROAD AS REQUESTED 73Y
MR. ALEKS KL IDZE.LS SU13.IECT TO COMPLIANCE WITH THE
RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE CITY PLANNER AND TIIE PLANNING
COMMISSIONAND SU73.IECT TO NO EXPANSION OF THE DRIVEWAY USE
OVER WHAT CURRENTI.YEXISTS
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Fahey.
Ayes (5) LaValle, Fahey, Montour, Anderson, Scalze.
Nays(0). Resolution declared adopted.
Mayor Fahey opened the public hearing to consider Architectural Review and
Conditional Use Permit for a comprehensive sign plan for the Snyders Drug
Store on Rice Street. The Planning Commission recommended approval of
the revised sign plan.
Kevin Snyder, SignArt, appeared before the Council and reviewed the revised sign
plan. He noted that the total signage will be within the 310 square feet allotted for
the property. He also noted that the signage will not include an electronic reader
board.
Montour pointed out that the property has now been subdivided and questioned tying
the restriction of one pylon sign for the Market Place Shopping Center to the entire
development. The City Planner reported that the PUD agreement is tied to this
property. It is the Council's discretion whether or not to issue a permit for a second
pylon.
Fahey questioned the restriction on electronic reader boards in this technological
society. The City Planner indicated that some cities allow electronic reader boards
and others do not. Snyder indicated that while Snyders Drug Store may want one iu
the future, it is not in their budget at this time. Fahey suggested that Snyders to bring
that issue back to the Council if at some point it wants an electronic reader board.
Scalze asked the type of signage that other cities have in redevelopment areas. The
City Planner reported that typically monument signs are preferred in traditional
downtown areas, while pylons are more likely as part of shopping centers. 'Che
2
