MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />LITTLE CANADA, MINNESOTA <br />Apri13, 2008 <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a regular meeting of the Parks & Recreation Commission <br />of the City of Little Canada, Minnesota, was held on the 3rd day of April, 2008, in the Council <br />Chambers of the City Center located at 515 Little Canada Road East in said City. <br />Chair Pam Davis called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m. and the following members of the <br />Commission were present: <br />MEMBERS PRESENT: Ms. Pam Davis, Chair <br />Mr. Jim Fleischhacker <br />Mr. Thomas Maida <br />Ms. Ruth Steinwall <br />ABSENT: Ms. Linda Fahey <br />Ms. Clara Neis <br />Mr. Kevin Steinert <br />ALSO PRESENT: Mr. Bill Sanders, Parks Consultant <br />Mr. Jim Morelan, Park & Recreation Director <br />Ms. Dotty Norgard, Recording Secretary <br />MINUTES Fleischhacker made a motion to approve the minutes as corrected, seconded by Steinwall. <br />Motion carried 4-0. <br />NEW Chair Davis suggested the Spring Parks Tour include some of the suggested trail systems. <br />BUSINESS She recommended that the tour be scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on May 1, meeting at the city center. <br />OLD Bill Sanders stated that he will be sending out bid request forms to contractors next week for <br />BUSINESS- the concrete work for the skate park. The due date for the bids will be April 29. He is <br />SKATEBOARD estimating the bids to be approximately $50,000 for the concrete work. Sanders stated there will <br />PARK be 6" of reinforced concrete and the park would be 60' x 90' in size. Maida questioned what <br />would happen if the park costs became too expensive. Morelan stated there would probably be <br />two options to consider -either acquire more money from other sources or purchase less <br />equipment initially and phase in more equipment as money became available. <br />Morelan reported the St. Paul Water Department will be reviewing and should be approving the <br />installation of the concrete base at their April Board of Commissioners meeting. <br />OLD FIRE Sanders showed three display boards, one of a map showing the proposed location of the skate <br />HALL park by the Old Fire Hall and two views of the proposed skate park equipment. Maida pointed <br />RECON- out that at the March meeting the commission motioned to request the City negotiate for the <br />FIGURATION purchase of the land south of the hockey rink from St. John's Church. Morelan will check with <br />the City as to the progress of that request. Sanders recommended that this commission also <br />request the City to negotiate with St. John's Church about the land needed for the future <br />Page 1 of 4 <br />
