MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
Apri13, 2008
Waterworks Trail. He thought the trail would not necessarily be constructed in the immediate
future, but thought the acquisition of both property requests could be done at one time.
TRAIL AND Sanders pointed out the location of each of the trails that have been listed as proposed projects
SIDEWALK on the large display board map and commented on each trail as follows:
SYSTEM
1.) Centerville Road/County Road D
This trail has been delayed waiting for Ramsey County to rebuild the road.
It is proposed to be a separate bike path and should be continued all the way
on County Road D to Highway 61. This would have to be coordinated with the
City of Maplewood. Morelan commented that he did not think it was a high priority
for Maplewood. Davis commented that Labore Road could be used as an alternate
route until this trail was completed.
2.) Power Line Trail/Payne Avenue to Pioneer Park
Sanders commented that the trail is complete from Payne Avenue to the east, but
homeowners have not wanted to give up their easements going westward. It is
possibly time to contact these residents again.
3.) Waterworks Trail/Railroad Crossing
The City is currently negotiating with the railroads about the approval needed to
complete this trail.
4.) Rice Street Trail
Sanders commented that this might be wrong to call this a trail as there is no
sidewalk. There is a study group, as well as Ramsey County, working on this long-
term project.
5.) North/South Connection- Middle School to Troutbrook
This trail runs along the St. Jude property and is planned to connect to the
Troutbrook Trail in Maplewood on the south side of Highway 36. This hail would
require a bridge over Highway 36 and Sanders believes it will be looked at in more
detail when the Rice Street/Highway 36 bridge project is considered. It was
suggested that the City Council speak to State Representative Bev Scalze about a
separate bike trail bridge over Highway 36. The City of Maplewood has contacted
Bill Sanders about this trail so they are also working on this trail connection.
6.) Waterworks Trail -Little Canada Road to Sextant
This hail is dependent upon a land use agreement or purchase from St. John's
Church and other property owners' approval.
7.) Sunset Court/Turnquist Wetland Trail and Boardwalk
Sanders stated this trail is mostly a boardwalk trail.
8.) 35E Pedestrian Crossing
