MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
April 3, 2008
The crossing for this bike bridge over 35E has been suggested to be at Demont
Avenue.
9.) Country Drive to South Owasso Boulevard
There is a large neighborhood interest in completing this trail project. There are
some new homes in this area with residents that wish to have trail access to city
parks.
10.) Little Canada Road -from Centerville to Ed =erton
11.) Labore Road -Desoto Street to County Road D
The commissioners are being asked to prioritize these twelve proposed trail/sidewalk projects,
based on linking needs, population, recreation area, and not necessarily the cost of the project.
Davis also stated that neighborhood needs are also important to consider. For example, the
Waterworks Trail would provide a trail that could be beneficial for access to the new proposed
Skate Park.
Davis requested all commissioners bring their ranking of importance on these eleven projects to
the commission meeting in May, and reminded all to not overlook the expensive projects.
Morelan stated that the cost of the project should be a prioritizing factor, but not the major
factor. Maida requested that Sanders put together more information and costs as bulleted items
on each of the above eleven projects to assist in the ranking decision making and include with
the mailing of the agenda of the May meeting.
Davis inquired which of the projects the other commissioners were interested in visiting next
month. Maida suggested visiting the proposed trail sites of 6, 8, 9, 10, 11. Steinwall questioned
how a bike trail could be built over Highway 35E when there are retaining walls on both sides
of the highway. Sanders stated that the bridge would probably go over the wall, with just a
slight, if any, cut through the retaining wall.
ARBOR DAY Morelan stated that Arbor Day will be celebrated on April 18°' at 1:00 p.m. at Spooner Park. The
program agenda will be sent to the schools. The program will consist of tree plantings with the
help of 4`h and 5`h grade students from Little Canada Elementary and St. John's School along
with some music selections and comments from city officials.
LIGHTING Morelan commented that the lighting for the Tennis Courts is the same bid schedule as the
Skating Park bid. He should have the bid results at the next commission meeting in May.
OTHER Morelan questioned Sanders about the bid procedures, whether they would be different, since
the LCRA is sponsoring the Skate Park. Sanders answered that the bid for the concrete would
be a formal bid procedure and the equipment bid procedure would be informal.
Davis reminded all that the 6:30 pm tour prior to next month's meeting is scheduled- rain or
shine.
